I signed up for the 3-week trial and saying that so far I really enjoy the adult classes is an understatement. I think this academy is amazing. The place is clean. The facility has A/C and also it's nice that there are chairs to sit and watch/wait for the next class. I find it especially notable... that instructors and students alike are personable. Everyone is positive, professional and supportive. It's a great environment to be in after a long day and just to keep up fitness as well as learn and practise something new in every class. The instructors have been very attentive, and will introduce you and help break the ice by having everyone welcome you to the classes. I think it's great and helps to build the culture! Classes have an excellent mix of variety and stays interesting for me while also helps with practising and doing drills. Each of the instructors are friendly! They remember names and are good at involving you in the classes.I mainly have been taught by Master Dayo who is entertaining and informative with his teaching and ties it in practically with 'street' fighting.I think the dojang has a good professional vibe while balancing approachability and personability. T.H.A provides kids and adults martial arts classes. My review below is exclusively regarding the adult Muay Thai classes, an extremely positive experience.Community:-The students of Muay Thai are typically career professionals and the health and safety aspect concern them. Most students attend... regularly, and they know they will face each other again. Therefore, the system is not egocentric and there is an atmosphere of friendship and support. I am yet to see a serious injury caused by one member upon the other.-When doing the drills, the senior students are usually paired against the beginners, so the rookies can watch and improve their techniques.Instructors:-During the training, the main instructors observe us and give live feedback.-There is a strong emphasis on building cardio capacity and proper breathing to remain relaxed when fighting.-Proper technique execution is valued more highly than inefficient use of power.-Prior to every drill, the correct way is shown and repeated a few times to explain the thinking behind it.-There are generous junior instructors who can help you even outside the official training hours.-The key instructor -Master Dayo- is very knowledgeable about quality warm up, cool down, stretching and etc needed to minimize the risk of injuries. He assures that the students have the proper technical and cardio base, before jumping to the more advanced classes.Logistics:-Free parking is available on the backstreets.-Business day adult classes start after 7:00 P.M.-The mirrors across the training room allow you to check your form.Despite its violent exterior, Muay Thai is a beautiful sport and requires alot more than brute force. You will learn how to work around your advantages and disadvantages, while keeping calm and conscious. It is a complex combination of useful physical and mental attributes. I strongly suggest interested people to try Muay Thai at least for a few sessions at Toronto Hapkido Academy.read more

Our 7yo and 4yo both attend T.H.A and we couldn't be happier with the decision to join 2 years ago. What appeals most to us about Hapkido is the value system that is instilled within each person there. Our children learn about personal responsibility, respect, discipline and honour. The environment... is warm and friendly, and the instructors are really wonderful with the kids. We're proud to call this our Dojo and will continue to send our children here for many many years to come.read more
My family’s experience with Toronto Hapkido Academy has been nothing short of fantastic from my very first phone call to ask for information to my daughter’s most recent class. The organization, staff, and classes are top-notch. Everything you could hope for in a martial arts school!
My family has been a part of the Hapkido Academy community for 6 years and the benefits cannot possibly be counted! I feel incredibly lucky that both of my sons have been learning this martial art since they were 4. It has instilled self value, confidence and a mind body connection that extremely... useful in all they do on and off the mats. The instructors take the time to learn about each child. They have created a welcoming learning environment for all who walk in the door. The adult classes are as challenging as you would like to make them. However, there is a balance of structure and pure enjoyment!read more

This is an amazing martial arts school! My daughter has been taking classes here for a few months, and from t he very first day we were amazed by how good the instructors are and how kind, welcoming, and fun they make their lessons. There is a very clear sense of respect going both ways, of the... fact the instructors care about each and every kid learning to do hapkido, and of constant encouragement to try and persevere and continue to get better. You can see the instructors enjoy and have fun teaching these kids, and you can see the kids respond to that. It's wonderful to watch the little ones master skills they didn't have, and it's great to see them take to heart the habits and ways of thinking that they talk about at the beginning of each lesson. In short, this place is something special, and we're grateful to be a part of it. I would strongly recommend this for anyone wishing their kids practice and develop their physical abilities, and to practice focus, respect (of self and others), discipline, hard work, kindness, patience... the list goes on.Thank you! and please keep doing an amazing job!read more
I am liking doing the Adult Hapkido class and I have learned so much from the instructors and I feel like I am not only taking a class but that I am part of a family and I highly recommend taking a class. 🤳👍👐🥋
Great place for my 8 year old son and 11 year old daughter! Instructors are encouraging, meet my kids’ unique needs, and teach life skills like respect in addition to having them workout and learn self-defence. It’s also pretty great that I can workout too every time we come 🥊
When I first joined THA I was looking for something to help with stress relief. I had never been a part of any gym before, and had certainly never boxed, so I was nervous that the classes would be too difficult or that I would make a fool of myself. I started in the Fitness Kickboxing class and... never looked back. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable, welcoming, and encouraging to all of their members, some of which have been coming to the gym for over 10 years! I consistently found the workouts challenging, but doable, and I was able to measure my progress over time. The Fitness Kickboxing is done with standing punching bags, but the instructors make sure to teach you proper Muay Thai technique. When I needed a little more instruction or correction, the instructors were always there, and never made me feel stupid or singled out. After almost a year of of the Fitness Kickboxing class, I started taking their Muay Thai classes as well, which I enjoyed even more. The Muay Thai is done with pads and gloves in pairs, and often a more experienced student is paired with a beginner. The other members are also extremely friendly and welcoming and know their stuff - I have never felt like they resented me for being more inexperienced or needing to take a combination a little slower. I have also always felt very safe in their classes even though I was initially afraid of being hit - but I have never been struck by accident or without pads. From someone who had never done workouts and always hated exercise, I highly recommend this school. I have noticed a significant decrease in my anxiety and feel much better about myself now that I am more active. Whether you are a beginner or just looking to try something new, I would recommend coming to this school - you will not regret it!read more
I dropped from an XL to small in 4 months! But that is just one of the many reasons I find THA life changing.I have battled my weight all my life and I joined the Kickboxing and Muay Thai program to change that. The environment of THA makes me flourish, I feel a lot more stronger and agile than I... ever thought I could be, the instructors have such a positive impact that THA is the best part of my day.Besides dropping pounds, my stress level has reduced (because you literally get to punch your pain away), and I am a lot more productive at work. Finally, I feel like no matter how my career goes, family treats me or life hits me, I always have THA to look forward to.Please do try it out, I drive 30 minutes to get to THA every day and it is well worth it. I have been to a number of martial art academies and fitness places in Canada and ended up with no change, but what Tess Ma’am and Master Dayo have created is just not reproducible. This is it, there is just one diamond mine in Toronto and it is THA. Hope to see you there soon!PS: Words cannot describe how much I love this place, so I will keep updating this review as I go 🙂read more

I have been going to T.H.A. for about three months now and never once did i not look forward to coming to class! T.H.A offers three different classes: Hapkido, Muay Thai, and Fitness kickboxing. I started off with the Muay Thai class out of curiosity and end up with sampling all three of them.The... Muay Thai class is challenging but fun. The instructors make sure that everyone understands and grasps the basic before advancing to a more complicated technique. A mixture of this and a little bit of cardio work makes this class an awesome class. The Fitness Kickboxing class is as equally fun and challenging as the muay thai class. This one is a combination of fast-pace and high intensityactivities. From the way the class is designed and the instructors to the attending members, it makes you want to better yourself and not slack.Last but not least, the Hapkido class. This class involves more ground work (grappling), a little different from the first two classes due to its technicality. However the instructors always pay careful attention and make sure that each technique is done properly. This might look scary and intimidating when watched, but it is actually very enjoyable.Overall, T.H.A is a great place to learn martial art or just to be more active and surrounded with positive people. If in doubt, try their 3-week trial program where you can sample all three classes and decide which one resonates best with you.read more

Taking Muay Thai classes at T.H.A. has been great! The environment is very welcoming and allows for growth, physically and mentally. Only going here for two months and I can feel the difference in my physical fitness. Would definitely recommend T.H.A.!!
Our sensitive, smart, playful, and slightly scatter-brained son was being bullied at school by a number of children over two years. In addition to our efforts dealing with the school, my wife and I were looking for a confidence-building activity for him. Back when I was in my twenties and early... thirties, I trained heavily at an Okinawan Karate and Ju-Jitsu school in Markham, but I was initially hesitant to have my 5-year-old son try an art I didn't have a background in. Eight months in, here are my observations:I am VERY IMPRESSED with T.H.A., both for their kids Hapkido and adult Muy Thai classes. There are schools cheaper, and closer to where we live mid-town (Toronto), but IMHO, this place is an EXCELLENT value, and well worth the slightly longer drive. I have not experienced their adult Hapkido classes, but I suspect they will be just as good if not better, considering this is first and foremost a Hapkido school.Children, teen, and adult classes, martial arts and fitness occur throughout the afternoon and evening. The schedule isn't posted on their website, but you can get it by emailing them. I found their no-strings-attached, free intro classes for my son and myself thoroughly enjoyable. They offer a few membership packages based on how much you can afford, and how much you want train. We went with the annual Hapkido membership for my son, and I chose a medium-term Muy Thai membership as a trial for myself. As luck...and my own carelessness would have it, I sustained a significant injury while on a ski trip. T.H.A. were happy to put my membership on hold, with no conditions. As soon as my doctor gives me the OK, I'm going back! We've also attended a number of their community BBQs, and parties: Hilarious, and family friendly. Well worth going. Our 4-year-old is itching to start.Bar none, T.H.A has the best kids martial arts classes I've ever seen! Their instructors PERFECTLY strike that hard to achieve, balanced mix of discipline, fun, physical challenge, technical instruction, and character-building. The latter is in the form of engaging discussions in Honesty, Empathy, etc. that are part of each 30 minute "Lil Dragons" class. How they effectively pack each class with all of the above is definitely worth seeing for yourself. In addition to the exercise, I really liked this character-building piece for our son. I see his physical skills, confidence, patience, and ability to verbally assert himself steadily growing with each week.As for my experience, I found the adult Muy Thai class also struck a perfect balance of ensuring a safe space, comfortable for beginners, while also steadily amping up the physical and technical challenge. I felt playfully pushed, but also supported when I needed to back off (I've got more than a few injuries). I also felt instantly welcomed. That was nice. My fellow participants were all shades, shapes, abilities, and intensity levels. I made a point of wiping the sweat out of my eyes every now and then to look around and see how others seemed to be doing. Everyone seemed to be finding the perfect level of challenge for themselves, while having a blast. I know I was.The school is well stocked with quality sparring gloves and pads if you don't have your own. If memory serves, you get gloves and wraps with an annual membership. The class I took was partner-based work with gloves and pads. Fun! No ceiling-mounted heavy-bags, but movable "heavy" punching bags with the weighted bottoms. They even have little ones for the kids classes!Target Market: Family, Individual, & Couples...so basically something for everyone. Conclusion: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Take an intro-class and see for yourself.Ryanread more

My son has been a "Lil Dragon" at THA Martial Arts for 3 years now and, as I was telling Miss Tess yesterday, our love for this school keeps growing every day. At each and every class, and at each and every fun + fantastic event that is put on, I sit in amazement to watch what Master Dayo has built... with the help of each and every administrator, instructor, student instructor, and volunteer. The sense of welcoming and of family is very evident in everything they do. I don't how they do it, but everyone who works there even has every child's name memorized by their very first class. The way each and every person works with the children in their program is inspiring - it is very obvious that they love what they do.Not only are the people great, but so are the programs they offer. I can only speak to the Lil Dragon's program and their Kids Summer Camp at this point, but my son has gained not only important martial arts skills, but priceless life lessons about self-esteem, patience, confidence, control over their body and mind, leadership, friendship and family values. My son is currently a Brown Belt in the Lil Dragon program and he can't wait until he gets his Dragon Belt and then advances to the Kids Program. At that time, my youngest son will then begin his adventure with the Lil Dragons and I am so excited for both of them to see how far they will go in Hapkido.read more
My family is greatly benefiting from our experience with THA Martial Arts. Not only are my boys becoming physically stronger, and more knowledgeable about self defense, but they are also becoming more confident and are learning important values. I appreciate how they are encouraged to focus on... their own self discipline and skills development rather than comparing themselves to others. I also truly value that they must truly earn and pass their belt test in order to move forward. When my son did not pass, he was told so in a very respectful way. I think he learned to fail with dignity that day, and returned to his class with renewed effort. In the end when he passed with confidence, he told me it meant more because he knew he had to earn it. We also love the sense of community and family when we are there. The events are always fun and our family feels like are a part of something bigger than just showing up for "lessons" . A great place! Thanksread more

The school has a very friendly environment and there is no judgment whatsoever no matter what level you are at. This is my first time training in any kind of martial arts and as a woman I fully recommend it!!read more
I have been kickboxing for about 8 months at THA. I LOVE it. Great community, great instructors, and I've lost weight. First workout regime I actually enjoy doing. I have had zero previous martial arts training, mostly working out at regular gyms. The first while is tough, but you get into the... swing of things, and feel yourself improving. Great group of people, total range of ages and fitness abilities.read more
I joined the T.H.A. for the Muay Thai classes last January and it's been a great experience! The classes provide a solid mix of cardio/conditioning and fighting technique that often leaves me pleasantly exhausted. The instructors seem genuinely interested in your progression and are always... available to answer questions. The other students are also quite friendly and the more experienced students typically help you with your form if they notice anything you can improve on. I look forward to attending classes here for a long time to come!read more
I'm so glad I discovered kickboxing and T.H.A! The small class size, friendly instructors and welcoming environment make me look forward to going to class every week. They know everyone by name! What I really like about the classes is that they are never the same, so it's never boring and your... muscles won't be used to a routine.read more
I signed up for their Muay Thai classes over a year ago now and I haven't looked back since. The community and instructors are fantastic. The training is designed to push you. If you're looking for a unique workout with a caring community then T.H.A is for you.
I am so thankful that I walked into this dojang! I had never attempted martial arts before in my life but dreamed of it. I'm in my 30s, and I felt like a kid again when I walked up to the door. So nervous! But when I walked in there that feeling soon vanished. I was greeted by a wonderful,... welcoming community! I have met many like-minded people of all ages. The culture is humble and kind. I never feel discouraged. Classes are curriculum-based and structured in a way that make me progress and excel on the mat. Not only have I become an ever evolving martial artist, but I have also transformed into a newer, healthier me! The workouts are amazing, and the classes are just right. You have to check this place out. You won't be disappointed!read more
My son has been with Hapkido for about 5 years. He started as a Little Dragon and now he is in the kids class. It's been a great experience for my son as he has developed to be confident and more focus. The instructors are awesome and they continue to bring excitement in every class.
