My now 7 y/o daughter started with the Little Dragons program in 2018 and is still going strong! In the fall of 2019, I was curious about and decided to try the adult kickboxing classes: Best decision of my life! The most diverse workouts instructed by genuinely enthusiastic, knowledgable, caring and... motivating individuals who go out of their way to make you feel like family. In a short time, you will feel great and notice a difference too! The best part is that I can do my thing while my daughter does hers in the same venue. Thank you to everyone at T.H.A. Martial Arts & Kickboxing for making the experience a great one for both of us!!read more

Our 7yo and 4yo both attend T.H.A and we couldn't be happier with the decision to join 2 years ago. What appeals most to us about Hapkido is the value system that is instilled within each person there. Our children learn about personal responsibility, respect, discipline and honour. The environment is warm... and friendly, and the instructors are really wonderful with the kids. We're proud to call this our Dojo and will continue to send our children here for many many years to come.read more

I signed up for the 3-week trial and saying that so far I really enjoy the adult classes is an understatement. I think this academy is amazing. The place is clean. The facility has A/C and also it's nice that there are chairs to sit and watch/wait for the next class. I find it especially notable that... instructors and students alike are personable. Everyone is positive, professional and supportive. It's a great environment to be in after a long day and just to keep up fitness as well as learn and practise something new in every class. The instructors have been very attentive, and will introduce you and help break the ice by having everyone welcome you to the classes. I think it's great and helps to build the culture! Classes have an excellent mix of variety and stays interesting for me while also helps with practising and doing drills. Each of the instructors are friendly! They remember names and are good at involving you in the classes.I mainly have been taught by Master Dayo who is entertaining and informative with his teaching and ties it in practically with 'street' fighting.I think the dojang has a good professional vibe while balancing approachability and personability. I dropped from an XL to small in 4 months! But that is just one of the many reasons I find THA life changing.I have battled my weight all my life and I joined the Kickboxing and Muay Thai program to change that. The environment of THA makes me flourish, I feel a lot more stronger and agile than I ever... thought I could be, the instructors have such a positive impact that THA is the best part of my day.Besides dropping pounds, my stress level has reduced (because you literally get to punch your pain away), and I am a lot more productive at work. Finally, I feel like no matter how my career goes, family treats me or life hits me, I always have THA to look forward to.Please do try it out, I drive 30 minutes to get to THA every day and it is well worth it. I have been to a number of martial art academies and fitness places in Canada and ended up with no change, but what Tess Ma’am and Master Dayo have created is just not reproducible. This is it, there is just one diamond mine in Toronto and it is THA. Hope to see you there soon!PS: Words cannot describe how much I love this place, so I will keep updating this review as I go 🙂read more

T.H.A provides kids and adults martial arts classes. My review below is exclusively regarding the adult Muay Thai classes, an extremely positive experience.Community:-The students of Muay Thai are typically career professionals and the health and safety aspect concern them. Most students attend... regularly, and they know they will face each other again. Therefore, the system is not egocentric and there is an atmosphere of friendship and support. I am yet to see a serious injury caused by one member upon the other.-When doing the drills, the senior students are usually paired against the beginners, so the rookies can watch and improve their techniques.Instructors:-During the training, the main instructors observe us and give live feedback.-There is a strong emphasis on building cardio capacity and proper breathing to remain relaxed when fighting.-Proper technique execution is valued more highly than inefficient use of power.-Prior to every drill, the correct way is shown and repeated a few times to explain the thinking behind it.-There are generous junior instructors who can help you even outside the official training hours.-The key instructor -Master Dayo- is very knowledgeable about quality warm up, cool down, stretching and etc needed to minimize the risk of injuries. He assures that the students have the proper technical and cardio base, before jumping to the more advanced classes.Logistics:-Free parking is available on the backstreets.-Business day adult classes start after 7:00 P.M.-The mirrors across the training room allow you to check your form.Despite its violent exterior, Muay Thai is a beautiful sport and requires alot more than brute force. You will learn how to work around your advantages and disadvantages, while keeping calm and conscious. It is a complex combination of useful physical and mental attributes. I strongly suggest interested people to try Muay Thai at least for a few sessions at Toronto Hapkido Academy.read more

This is an amazing martial arts school! My daughter has been taking classes here for a few months, and from t he very first day we were amazed by how good the instructors are and how kind, welcoming, and fun they make their lessons. I have been going to T.H.A. for about three months now and never once did i not look forward to coming to class! T.H.A offers three different classes: Hapkido, Muay Thai, and Fitness kickboxing. I started off with the Muay Thai class out of curiosity and end up with sampling all three of them. The Muay Thai... class is challenging but fun. The instructors make sure that everyone understands and grasps the basic before advancing to a more complicated technique. A mixture of this and a little bit of cardio work makes this class an awesome class. The Fitness Kickboxing class is as equally fun and challenging as the muay thai class. This one is a combination of fast-pace and high intensityactivities. From the way the class is designed and the instructors to the attending members, it makes you want to better yourself and not slack.Last but not least, the Hapkido class. This class involves more ground work (grappling), a little different from the first two classes due to its technicality. However the instructors always pay careful attention and make sure that each technique is done properly. This might look scary and intimidating when watched, but it is actually very enjoyable.Overall, T.H.A is a great place to learn martial art or just to be more active and surrounded with positive people. If in doubt, try their 3-week trial program where you can sample all three classes and decide which one resonates best with you.read more

martial arts for kids Toronto

1

Our kids class curriculum is designed around a powerful life-skills foundation and functional martial arts training.

Martial Arts for Kids:

The challenge with many studios offering martial arts for kids in Toronto is that they simply were not organically created with kids in mind.

Evoke cuts through the noise between the different martial arts disciplines – karate, jiujitsu, hapkido, taekwondo, judo, kickboxing, etc.

We focus on the very essence of martial arts for kids – helping them evoke their very best through personal development and achievement.

They learn to be better listeners, self-disciplined, focused, and skilled young martial artists.

I really appreciate the life lessons taught at the same time- they learn about confidence, respect, gratitude, etc in a way they can understand. I wholeheartedly recommend!read more

I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I have been training at THA for about 7 years now. I started with the teen hapkido class and I absolutely loved it, all the trainers are amazing, it is such a warm and supportive environment. Now I do the Muay Thai classes and the fitness kickboxing classes. Both are an... extremely good workout and a lot of fun. The trainers at THA create such an amazing environment, everyone encourages you to do your best and push yourself. I always leave class with a smile on my face, and proud of what I accomplished.read more

My son started the Lil Dragons program in September and loves it. The entire instructor team has been fantastic in ensuring each child is engaged, having fun and learning valuable life lessons. They truly want each child to be successful and earn their stripes. My son has absolutely shown improved... confidence and self control since starting. He was just old enough to do this past March Break camp and had a blast. The entire instructor team took great care of him and he can't wait for summer camp.My husband also does adult classes and loves it! He calls it his second home!If you are looking to enrol your child into martial arts, T.H.A is a wonderful family friendly place that I highly recommend.read more

My wife and son were already full members of Toronto Hapkido Academy so when they moved to overing virtual classes due to the COVID-19 pandemic I decided to give it a try. I have been very happy with that decision and am reaping the rewards. The evening workout sessions are a great way to get in a workout... after sitting at my desk all day. They are challenging but the instructors are very encouraging and offer tips to adjust the exercises to each participant's level. I have definitely seen an improvement in my fitness over the last couple of months.read more

Came across an 11 year old photo of my youngest with Master Dayo and just thought about the great memories that both she and her sister have of their time here. They are no longer members but starting with little dragons and continuing on to the kids program gave them both a solid foundation of discipline... and respect which continues to this day. I wanted to say thank and let others know that this was a very important part of my girls growth.read more

Kids Program FAQ:

You can join anytime.

Classes run year round and organized in such away that new kids can enrol at any time.

Each lesson is well structured, beginner friendly, and progressively challenging for new students to join in.

Absolutely not!

In fact, it’s quite the opposite at our school. Our teachings are age-appropriate  with an emphasis on life skills and positive character building.

We use martial arts movement to enhance athletic skills, while emphasizing values such as patience, self-control, respect, and self-discipline.

Martial arts is great for all kids and at Evoke we have as many girls as we have boys, and they all love it.

None of our programs are gender dominated, so your daughter will not feel intimidated.

In fact we have more girls in our advanced classes and lots of female instructors on our team that many of the kids look up to.

Whether or not your child is athletic, they’ll feel right at home in our classes.

Our awesome team of experienced instructors will work hand in hand with your kids to insure they have a fun, exciting, and enriching experience.

Martial arts helps kids develop great motor skills and an excellent complement to other sports.

Lessons are organize by age to make sure your children are appropriately challenged. This program is for ages 8 to 12 only.

We have Lil’ Dragon classes that are well-structured for 4 & 5 year olds, and 6 & 7 year olds.

Our classes, and programs, typically run back-to-back. On some days we even have classes simultaneously on an adjacent training floor to make it convenient for families with siblings.

Absolutely.

From having a 6-to-1 student-instructor ratio for efficient supervision, to our padded workout floors, and top of the equipment, safety is always a priority.

Every aspect of our Lil’ Dragons program is designed to ensure your child is safe and having fun.

Controlled contact is integral in this type of martial art, but there is no sparring from the get go.

New students spend a number of months in our fundamentals class where beginners are taught how to fall safely, apply basic tackle escapes, and defensive moves.

Evoke’s curriculum also equips kids with tools to deal with aggression and bullying without using their fists 🙂

Children tend to take well to classes at Evoke martial arts.

There is always something new learn, and we keep classes fresh so they never bored.

After trying a complementary class, to be sure, we encourage families to start with our 3-Week trial offer. It is a great way to have your child “test-drive” more classes to make sure we are a good fit for them.

For over a decade, Evoke has led the way in martial arts classes for kids with our signature programs for ages 8 to 12.

My family has been a part of the Evoke family for 6 years and the benefits cannot possibly be counted! I feel incredibly lucky that both of my sons have been learning this martial art since they were 4. It has instilled self value, confidence and a mind body connection that extremely useful in all they do on and off the mats. The instructors take the time to learn about each child. They have created a welcoming learning environment for all who walk in the door.
